Pol Lt Col Phacharathorn Chan-iad of the Patong Police was called to the small hotel, on Phra Baramee Rd at the northern end of the town, at about 2:26am.

Officers arrived to find the body of the 45-year-old Estonian man* where he had collapsed on the bathroom floor.

Police noted that the Estonian man was staying at the hotel with his partner, Wanlaya Nilkaew Amstad, originally from Surin province.

Ms Amstad explained that the Estonian man was overseeing renovations of a bar on Bangla Rd that were scheduled to be complete by the end of this month.

The couple had returned to the room as usual last night. Ms Amstad woke at around 1:39am and noticed that her partner had been in the bathroom for an unusually long time.

She opened the bathroom to find her partner unconscious and unresponsive on the floor. Unable to rouse him, she called for help.

Dr Athit Surawisankul, a forensic doctor on duty at Vachira Phuket Hospital, arrived to inspect the scene, and the Estonian man’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town for post-mortem examination.

The details of the medical team’s findings have yet to be revealed.
