Capt Suphon Muangkhai of the Sakhu Police was called to the airport at about 8:55pm last night (Aug 29).
He was joined by Sakhu Police Chief Col Salan Santisatsanakul along with Lt Col Kraisorn Chomchuen and Pol Lt Boonchai Charoenhattakij.
The body of the Australian man was found on the ground near the motorcycle parking area.
His body taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said that from their investigation they had confirmed that the Australian man went to the sixth floor of the building, walked up to the balcony, and jumped.
Police said the man had arrived in Phuket on April 11 on Jetstar Flight JQ-0017. He left on Apr 23 via Jetstar Flight JQ-0018.
He then returned to Phuket last Thursday (Aug 24) on Jetstar Flight JQ-0017.
As of last night police said they were working with the Australian Embassy in order to inform the man’s family of his death.
However, the man’s family learned through a post on a Thai-language Phuket news media site, clearly reporting him to be Australian national Justin Beasley, 50.
The family had posted a notice on a local Phuket Facebook group, saying they were concerned about Mr Beasley’s welfare, as he had not been heard from in days. He was last known to be staying on Nanai Rd, Patong.
