Officers were informed of the accident, opposite the Bangchak petrol station on Wiset Rd southbound, at 6:48am on Friday (Jan 26).
Police and rescue workers arrived to find the man* had suffered serious injuries to his head and chest. He was rushed to Chalong Hospital, but pronounced dead from his injuries just after 7am Saturday (Jan 27). His body was transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town.
CCTV footage showed the man lost control of the motorbike he was riding and crashed into the central reservation with no other vehicles involved, police said in their report.
The police report made no mention of whether or not the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
An eyewitness report sent to The Phuket News’ Russian-language sister newspaper Novosti Phuketa confirmed the death of a second person in a road accident in Phuket on Friday, after a motorbike accident on Kata Hill. No further details were available.
According national road-safety agency ThaiRSC, so far 17 people have died and 2,146 people have been injured in road accidents in Phuket since Jan 1.
