Officers from Kamala Police Station confirmed the arrest of the Australian man, named as ‘Wayne Edward’, at 7:45pm on Thursday (Apr 30). The incident itself occurred earlier at the Khok Yang intersection in Moo 3, Kamala.
Police tracked down the driver after a video circulated online appearing to show his black Mustang sedan moving through a red light.
However, footage of the incident shows the situation began when the Australian stopped at a red light but positioned his vehicle in the middle of a narrow street, blocking the intersection.
This prevented a white car ‒ whose driver had a green light ‒ from entering the street.
Unable to proceed, the white car remained in the middle of the intersection. After waiting, a woman exited the vehicle while speaking on her mobile phone and walked toward the Australian driver’s car, leaving her vehicle stationary and further obstructing traffic.
As the confrontation developed, the Australian driver eventually moved slowly forward through the intersection, leaving the situation.
Police said the Australian was charged and fined for failing to stop at the designated stop line and for driving through a red light. A urine test for drug use returned negative.
The police report did not include details about the initial obstruction caused by the Australian driver or the subsequent actions of the woman in the white car.
It remains unclear whether any action will be taken against the second driver. Police reiterated that all motorists must comply with traffic laws and avoid blocking intersections, warning that violations will be prosecuted.
