Police arrived at the scene with Ruamjai Kupai rescue workers and were led to a second floor apartment where the man’s body had been found. Police said there was a foul smell coming from the room.
Using a spare key, police opened the room and found the 30-year-old Australian national (name withheld until his family have been informed) lying shirtless on the bed with traces of blood coming from his mouth.
Lt Chanat explained: “We found some traces of blood on the sheet, there was also a syringe and variety of medication in the room.
“There were no other signs of assault, bodily injury, or robbery in the room. We believe he had been dead for at least three days before the body was discovered by staff,” he said.
“At this stage we do not know what happened to him. We believe that he went into shock, however, the body was taken to Vachira Hospital for doctors to determine the cause and time of death.
“Staff here said that the man was last seen on July 17 when he left the room for boxing training, no one had seen him since. Staff decided to check the room because there was an overwhelming smell in the area and many residents questioned why. We were called after the man was found unresponsive.
“We have notified the Australian Embassy so they can let his family know,” he added.
