Anutin said that the government is currently preparing its policy statement for presentation to parliament, which will outline its strategic focus on addressing four key areas: the economy, national security, disaster response, and social issues.
He also announced that the government will organise a referendum on a constitutional amendment with the aim of ensuring public participation in the drafting of a new charter.
This referendum is scheduled to coincide with the next general election, reports the Bangkok Post.
Under the current plan, the House of Representatives will be dissolved within four months of the government’s policy statement being delivered to parliament, with the Election Commission to subsequently determine the exact date of the general election, he said.
Anutin said the Cabinet has resolved to submit a formal letter to the parliament president, requesting that the government’s policy statement be presented between Sept 29-30.
The Cabinet has also outlined guidelines for its meetings and revised the operational framework to ensure all agencies accelerate their work and reduce redundant procedures, while maintaining full legal compliance.
Furthermore, all Cabinet ministers are expected to be available to work seven days a week, marking a new phase in how the Thai Cabinet operates. Cabinet meetings may be held more than once per week if necessary, he said.
The draft government policy statement scheduled for presentation to parliament states support for holding a referendum and amending the constitution.
Anutin said that the process will prioritise listening to the voices of the people and fostering inclusive participation from all sectors.
As for economic measures, the government aims to increase incomes and reduce living expenses, including costs for energy, clean drinking water, transportation fares, and toll fees, thereby enhancing people’s purchasing power.
Initiatives such as the “Khon La Khrueng” (co-payment) scheme will be implemented. Price management of agricultural products will be maintained at appropriate levels, alongside creating opportunities to generate income and improve competitiveness for small traders, entrepreneurs, farmers, and local communities.
The policy statement also spells out security measures, including expediting a peaceful resolution of disputes between Thailand and Cambodia through appropriate diplomatic negotiation mechanisms, alongside maintaining a strong national defence.
Additionally, a referendum will be held to allow the public to participate in deciding and providing their opinion on the cancellation of the memorandum of understanding between Thailand and Cambodia.
To tackle social issues, the government is committed to rigorously suppressing all forms of illegal gambling and does not support the legalisation of any gambling businesses.
