American tourist dies after night out in Phuket

PHUKET: An American tourist died in the early hours of Sunday morning (Apr 6) after reportedly returning to his hotel room in Phuket Town with symptoms of vomiting following a night out drinking.

The deceased, a 22-year-old American national* from Washington State, had been staying at the Rabbit Hotel near the old bus station (Phuket Bus terminal 1) on Phang Nga Rd, with his girlfriend, a Myanmar national.

According to police, The American man left the hotel on Saturday night to go drinking with friends. He returned to the hotel at approximately 4.30am Sunday, visibly unwell and vomiting.

His girlfriend contacted emergency services, and the American man was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident was reported to Phuket City Police Station at around 7am.

An investigation is underway, and investigators are waiting for the results of a medical examination by forensic doctors to determine the exact cause of death, police said.

At this stage there are currently no suspects or accusations in connection with the case, police noted.
