Lt Col Weerapong Rakkhito from Kathu Police was called to investigate the death of a foreign man at 4:45am today.
Police were told that the man died after falling from the 17th floor a hotel on Ratuthit 200 Pi Rd in Patong.
Lt Col Weerapong arrived at the hotel with Lt Col Akkanit Danpitaksan, Lt Col Suthichai Tienpo and Kusoldharm rescue workers and were led to the hotel’s loading and storage area where the 40-year-old man’s body was lying face up on the ground.
Officers checked the victim’s room on the 17th floor of the hotel and confirmed that there were no signs of robbery.
Lt Col Weerapong said, “We have been told that the man checked into the hotel alone several days ago.
“It is possible that he was stressed or dealing with issues that he could not handle so he decided to jump from the building.
“We don’t know for sure what happened, but we have transferred the body to Patong Hospital for doctors to confirm the cause of death.
“We are contacting the US embassy so they can notify his family while we investigate what happened to him,” he said.
