The campaign to prevent crimes, especially those involving drugs, “to enhance the good image of Phuket tourism” had produced good results, Phuket Provincial Police said in a report yesterday (Oct 15).

From Oct 8-14, police investigations had resulted in 16 suspects charged with distribution/conspiracy and support of the proliferation of drugs, said the report.

A further 41 suspects were arrested on drug charges, with officers seizing 9,946 methamphetamine tablets (ya bah) and 128.1 grammes of crystal meth (ya ice).

Officers also arrested seven suspects on firearms charges, the report added.

The report yesterday followed a similar report last week marking arrests made from Oct 1-7.

During the first week of the month police in Phuket arrested five suspects on drug distribution charges and a further 24 suspects on individual drug charges.

Police seized 1,540 ya bah pills, 2.4g of ya ice and 0.1g of heroin during the week and made arrests in three cases involving firearms charges.

Police are continuing their campaign, Phuket Provincial police noted in their report.

“In addition, we have increased the strictness of searching people and vehicles at the Phuket Check Point,” the report added.

Meanwhile, Region 8 Police last week launched their public safety campaign for the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, with an assembly, a parade and display of weapons seized as part of the national effort to crack down on firearms.
