The project, carried out in partnership with National Telecommunications Public Company Limited (NT), aims to enhance the safety of residents and tourists by expanding surveillance coverage throughout the municipality.
Phuket Town Mayor Suppachoke Laongphet said the municipality considers security a fundamental pillar of sustainable urban development and the local tourism economy.
“Building confidence in safety is essential for Phuket’s long-term growth. This CCTV system will strengthen our ability to prevent and monitor incidents across the city,” he said.
All cameras are connected to a central control room (CCR) using integrated information technology systems that enable 24-hour live monitoring and continuous recording. Footage can be stored for up to 30 days and used as evidence in criminal investigations and other incidents.
The rollout has been divided into three phases.
The first phase, now completed, focused on major public parks. Cameras were installed at Suan Luang Rama IX Park (32 cameras), Saphan Hin Park (35 cameras) and Khao Rang Park (3 cameras).
The second phase expanded coverage to 26 key intersections and junctions across the municipality, including busy economic zones, hospitals, schools, government offices and densely populated communities. This phase has also been completed.
The third phase extends surveillance to 32 communities within the Phuket City Municipality area, including major road intersections and main roundabouts, providing broader coverage of residential neighbourhoods.
According to the Mayor, all cameras installed are digital, with 8-megapixel resolution and full day-and-night recording capability. The units are waterproof and resistant to sunlight, ensuring reliable operation in Phuket’s tropical climate.
Members of the public who wish to request access to footage from cameras under the municipality’s responsibility may submit an application in accordance with established procedures. Further information is available via the Phuket City Municipality hotline on 1132.
Mayor Suppachoke said the expanded network would serve as a “vital tool” in monitoring incidents, supporting law enforcement and emergency response, and strengthening overall public safety.
“We are confident this system will enhance security and help build lasting confidence among residents and visitors alike,” he said.
