The operation was officially launched at Phuket City Police Station yesterday (Apr 7), where Region 8 Police Deputy Commander Pol Maj Gen Saranyu Chamnanrat presided over the ceremony.
He was joined by Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum, and representatives from multiple government and security agencies.
The campaign forms part of the Royal Thai Police’s nationwide policy to strengthen proactive crime prevention and improve traffic management during major holidays, when travel volumes surge.
Authorities confirmed that resources from across agencies have been integrated to maximise efficiency, with a focus on preventing crime, intercepting illegal activities and maintaining public order throughout the festival period.
Pol Maj Gen Saranyu said security measures begin at points of entry into Phuket, with strict screening of individuals against arrest warrants and international red notices. Anyone identified as high-risk or wanted will be immediately detained, he said.
Checkpoints and roadblocks have also been intensified across the island to curb drug trafficking, with officials reporting positive results from the coordinated operations so far.
As part of longer-term measures, enhanced CCTV systems have been installed at key entry points, including the Tha Chatchai checkpoint. These systems are being linked with wider data networks to improve surveillance capabilities and support law enforcement efforts.
The operation brings together officers from Phuket Provincial Police, the Investigation Division of Provincial Police Region 8 and the Tourist Police, alongside immigration, marine and highway police, border patrol units, forensic teams, military personnel, administrative officials and volunteers.
In total, more than 350 personnel have been mobilised to support the campaign.
Officers have been instructed to carry out their duties with caution, adhere strictly to operational procedures and prioritise proactive policing to reduce opportunities for criminal activity.
In parallel, tourist safety measures have been stepped up under the ‘White Tourism Community’ campaign, led by the Tourist Police and the Department of Tourism.
Senior officials, including Tourist Police Commander Pol Lt Gen Saksira Puek-am and Deputy Director-General of the Department of Tourism Boonserm Khan-kaew, visited Phuket yesterday to monitor operations and inspect safety measures.
At Royal Phuket Marina, authorities conducted random drug tests on taxi drivers and tour boat operators, targeting frontline service providers to ensure safety standards are upheld.
Operators were also instructed to comply strictly with regulations, with officials emphasising safety across both land and marine transport.
Officials said the combined measures are aimed at boosting confidence among both domestic and international visitors, while reinforcing Phuket’s reputation as a safe tourism destination during the festival.
