Phuket Vice Governor Danai Sunantarod presided over an official cermeony at Chaloem Phra Kiat Public Park (Rama 10) in Saphan Hin where a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit was displayed before the shrimp were released into the water.
The release of such aquatic animals is a ceremony that happens annually to honour Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, whose birthday falls on Aug 12.
Also present at the ceremony were Phairot Srimoon, Chief of Phuket City; Sitthipol Muangsong, official representative of Phuket Fisheries; and Pisan Hatkan, Deputy Mayor of Phuket, in addition to representatives from various government agencies, students and members of the local fishing community.
In addition to honouring and offering royal merits for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s birthday, the release of the 1mn shrimp is also an opportunity to replenish stocks in local waters to ensure abundant numbers are available to fish moving forward.
