The raid was carried out at about 2:15am by the Phuket Provincial Administration Special Operations Unit in cooperation with the Mueang Phuket District Office Special Operations Unit.
The operation was conducted following a complaint about illegal Hi-Lo and Nine-Card Poker gambling, the Mueang Phuket District Office reported.
Officials said the gambling operation had changed locations to make it more difficult for authorities to track. Investigators eventually located the gathering at Soi Khuean Bang Wad, Moo 7, Kathu.
When officers arrived they found a large number of people gambling illegally. However, some suspects managed to flee using their familiarity with the area, officials said.
Ten suspects – seven men and three women – were arrested.
Officers seized a deck of cards, a set of dice used for gambling and B1,580 in cash.
The operation concluded at about 6:30am.
According to officials, those arrested admitted to participating in illegal Nine-Card Poker gambling. The organisers of the gambling operation were also charged with operating an illegal gambling venue.
All suspects - none of whom were named by officials ‒ were handed over to investigators at Kathu Police Station for legal action.
