According to a spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, had instructed all police officers to be on a heightened sense of alert during the New Year while helping to facilitate the travelling of holiday makers.

In addition to safety measures, the Thai Police will enforce strict traffic regulations against drivers who are caught driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. Vehicles will be impounded while drunk drivers will face serious charges, with seized vehicles to be released back to owners after the holiday.

In order to further facilitate traffic during the long holiday, rest stops will be set up in 243 locations throughout the kingdom. Furthermore, military officers along the borderline will be on a 24-hour lookout for illegal activities.

Phuket Police on December 25 confirmed that multiple checkpoints will be set up across the island.
