“We are aware of the announcement in Bangkok but we will only have regular police and defense volunteers at police checkpoints in Phuket,” Col Teerapol Thipjaroen, Deputy Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police, confirmed.
“Regardless, we will perform our duties as usual,” he added. “We will have checkpoints across the island, and these policeman will focus more on road safety during this period.”
Regarding police seizing vehicles of motorists found drunk driving, Col Teerapol explained, “As usual, the vehicle will be seized while we process drunk driving charges against suspects, but once that is complete, the vehicle may be claimed and driven away by a sober nominee of the vehicle’s owner.”
