Full Metal Dojo 3

Phuket fighters went 3-2 at Full Metal Dojo 3 in Bangkok this past November, with Tiger Muay Thai leading the charge with three victories (Emalo Urrutia, Ali Motamed and Alex Schild). Phuket Top Team’s Youseff Wehbe and Maximum’s Tanabadee Supparukephusakun both fought bravely in their tough bouts. The event also saw former Patong Boxing Stadium announcer Jon Nutt’s plans to fight Phuket-based Musa Conteh in February. Big things ahead.

Kid sailors at worlds

With training limited to one day a week, the kids from the Phuket Youth Sailing Club – most of whom live in the Phuket Sunshine Village for disadvantaged and orphaned children – have already taken part at the Zhik Topper World Championships in Wales back in August. Kartoon “Toon” Jundet (12) and Kuluk “Ta” Sarawuth (12) both finished 5th and 7th overall respectively in the 4.2m class. It’s been a great year for the squad as they have also won the Phuket King’s Cup Dinghy Series and will compete in the Thailand National Optimist qualifiers.

Roger Huerta’s comeback

Despite a two-year layoff from professional fighting, MMA superstar and Tiger Muay Thai’s own Roger Huerta came back with a bang on August 29. The former UFC fighter took care of an undefeated Christian Holley in the first round with a TKO victory at ONE FC: Reign of Champions in Dubai. More is yet to come for the Phuketian as he continues to manage and train top fighters while continuing his comeback.

At just 12 years old, Vanchai “Mark” Luangnitikul is a golf prodigy. This was cemented when the Kajonkiet International School Phuket student tied for 4th place in the Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego, California in August, outperforming over 1,000 international golfers. He followed that with the overall prize at the Singha Thailand Junior World Golf Championship in November.
