Lt Dusit Phongphan, an inspector with the Phang Nga Muang District Police, told The Phuket News today (Sept 29), “We have finally received the BAC test results from Phang Nga Hospital after waiting for more than two weeks, and they confirm that the officer’s alcohol level was more than 50mg at the time of the incident.

“The officer has now been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

Lt Dusit declined to elaborate further as to whether the officer, Sub Lt Thanom Haesathit, will face a prison sentence.

“His case has been handed over to the court and a disciplinary committee, and he will be punished accordingly by them,” he said.

Initial reports on the incident stated that Sub Lt Thanom was reeking of alcohol when he left six people injured after his pickup truck crossed Phetkasem Rd and crashed into them – before he fled the scene. The incident sparked outrage among local residents in Phang Nga Town.(See story here.)

Sub Lt Thanom of Phang Nga Muang Police Station was released on bail of B20,000 after he was charged with reckless driving causing injury and fleeing the scene. (See story here.)

Kurt: I have no idea what you are referring to. What has car manufacturing go to do with police not speaking English?
Jeez man you do waffle on and is it absolutely necessary to write a book each time? What are you trying to do, compete with war and peace?

swerv:
In-& Export is international.
Tourist-& hotel industry is international.
Car manufactory in Thailand is international.
Shipping industry is international.
Banking is international.
International schools in Thailand deliver the best students.
Large shopping centers are not thai, but international.
International hospitals function very good.
Computer/camera industry is international.

And all these international firms provide job education, jobs and feed many thai families.

Thai Water management is still thai only due to refusal of international water management involvement.
( we do it our way. Actually doing nothing, sitting on hands till heavy monsoon rains start)
Let flow away treasures water what should be contained for the next dry season.
Still just some temporarily pumps or sand bags here and there while whole cities are flooded.
Year after year, and nothing change.

Last long dry season was giving many opportunities to tackle a lot of water management problems proactive in advance.
But, nothing, just ..Mai pen rai...

Imagine the misery many thai people have to undergo yearly because their property and land is under water.

swerv: Sorry that I forgot to say that is was a international meeting. But thought you would not need to have it spelled out.
Hey, they remain in stone age?
High ranking police officers must have language skills to communicate with their foreign counter partners, as well with foreign criminals.
From were this lack of education?
Bangla Road bar girls do understand better the advantage of being more international in language ability. :-)

International wise one comes not far with thai language only..

Kurt: You state-----Was not long ago on a RTP meeting in Bangkok, was surprised how many RTP captain's, colonels not speak English.
Why should they? This is Thailand, the language here is Thai.

The bail of this road criminal is very little.
Just about a 1 month salary. A joke!
Wonder or he even has to fork it up himself.

Yes, Local villagers become more empowering.
They not except local authority nonsense anymore.
Seems local villagers already entered 21 century.

Thai RTP still has to come through that door.
Was not long ago on a RTP meeting in Bangkok, was surprised how many RTP captain's, colonels not speak English.
Their 'living/professional world' must be very limited.

phangngajudge, it is the lesser charge, he will not be punished and be back on duty... did we expect anything else, let's face it, if the villagers had not complained, nothing would have happened.

im disgusted by the fact they only charge him with drunk driving when obviously he fled the scene, caused a lot of damage to vehicles and injured several persons which could amount to aggravated assault, however, i have heard that a lot of people, thai and foreigners alike, have made complaints about the problematic behavior of the police in that rural area hence suggest that the Crime suppression division and military should have a very close look in that area, where it is also noteworthy to mention that recently they shot and killed a poor myanmar individual because he threw a stone on the police!!!

I guess this drunk police officer will face many charges.
Drunk driving, causing injuries to 6 persons.
Fleeing the scene.
Unethical behavior as a police officer in his private time, bringing shame on RTP.

I hope his court case will be delayed until he had the 6 victims fully compensated first.
That would contribute fine to decide more or less time in prison.

Bjay | 29 September 2016 - 18:13:46

I presume he would also be charged with fleeing the scene etc!
