Sakoo police identified Porwarut Thepabuth as the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting of beach vendor Chayan Srinuan, 23, who was shot following an altercation last Thursday, and arrested him at his home in Moo 1 Sakoo. He was found to be in possession of a homemade gun.

Mr Chayan was shot once in his lower left torso in last Thursday’s incident and the bullet exited near his genitals police were told. (See story here.)

After his arrest, Porwarut admitted to the shooting and gave police a homemade gun containing .38 bullets. Police also seized his motorbike.

Whilst in custody, Porwarut told police that he was heading along the new airport road on his way to join the Vegetarian Festival procession from Bang Neow Shrine.

“It was raining so I decided to drive down the road the wrong way and almost collided with Mr Chayan. He cursed me, I got angry and turned around and shot him once before driving away,” he said.

Sakoo Police Chief Col Jirasak Siamsak said, “We were told that Mr Chayan was riding a motorbike on the new airport road with his 10-year-old nephew when a Honda Scoopy came towards him and almost collided.

“Mr Chayan was upset over the incident so he yelled at the driver and his passenger (a woman), they exchanged some abusive words. The Honda driver then made a U-turn and shot Mr Chayan before speeding away,” he said.

“I had my team check CCTV from the suspects escape route and questioned witnesses. This led to the arrest of Porwarut who was found hiding in a house in Moo 1 in Sakoo with his girlfriend.

“Porwarut has been charged with carrying a firearm and ammunition into public place. We are still gathering information to see whether he will also be charged with attempted murder.

“As far as we understand, his girlfriend had no involvement in the shooting so she faces no charges at present,” he added.

Mr Chayan is currently at Vachira Hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

Pauly44... read what I said, "...which blurs the realities of life, and therefore, they feel the need to push their own agenda regardless of whether that agenda appears to be relevant, important and true to the rest of the sane world." in other words, that's life man...that's how it goes sometimes.

Joe 12, again, what the ??? Going by the facts of the report this idiot broke the law in numerous ways almost killing a child out of sheer petulance and you're saying the people who have commented here have their own agendas in contrast to the realities of life? What utter nonsense. Just call a spade a spade and peer out of your foggy rose coloured glasses occasionally, other comments here are absolutely fair & reasonable considering what this bad egg confessed to doing.

@Pauly 44 the police gathering informations about the family background of this little gangster to find out how much is in- it for them if the case disappear in to thin air. charged with attempted murder (could still turn murder if this men not survive) the case wold need more then some corrupt police to sweep it under the carpet. the involvment of the shooters girlfriend. she got with him in to hiding, she was a witness of this crime, she is not a relative of him and did not report this crime to police. by law she is guilty for not reporting this crime.

Gotta laugh at the white liberals, who know what is best for everyone else, and devotes his time commenting on here. They seem to have a large object permanently inserted inside the ends of their world, which blurs the realities of life, and therefore, they feel the need to push their own agenda regardless of whether that agenda appears to be relevant, important and true to the rest of the sane world.

Oh, the insanity of it all. Here is this punk toting his 2 inch penis and a gun to the Veggie festival, decides to go the wrong way in the rain...almost hits someone, who understandibly gets upset, then weenie boy turns around and freeking shoots another human being. Then Thailands finest Bib only charges this punk with carrying a firearm and ammunition into public place...even after the clown admitted turning around and going back and shooting the guy out of anger. Call me harsh, but I would have had respect for the police if they would have taken him out in the bush and offed him like a rabid dog. Thailand would be a better place had they done that.

slippery snake: Last month the Prime minister ordered not to parade suspects any longer, as long they are not convicted in thai Court.
RTP make many mistakes, arrest sometimes wrong person, but career, family life of the accused can be already ruined by these RTP glorious photo parades.
So, actually, even when they blind the face of accused, the photo is illegal according thai law as there is to much visible to recognize the accused.
But RTP officers can't resist to have their moment of office fame.

Where do these little assholes come from ? riding the wrong way down the road, nearly causing an accident and then could have easy killed the guy for abusing him, or worse could have shot a 10 year old, or caused an accident and killed the guy and his 10 year old kid... How do parents bring up their kids in Thailand ? obviously with not much discipline, as this sort of thing happens all the time..
