According to Marine Police Lt Col Panya Chaichana, the positive identification of the barge captain, Mr Visanu Thongbai, was confirmed today by the his widowed wife.
With the discovery, five of the six missing crew have now been accounted for since their barge, the Sintu Phuket 1 sank in rough weather off Phuket before dawn on July 7.
Pol Lt Col Akhom Suanin of the Palien Police Station in Trang today revealed that the body was recovered at about 5pm by a fisherman in the sea between Koh Sukorn island and Laem Yong Star Cape, in the Tha Kham sub district of Trang, about 70 km from Krabi’s Koh Ngai.
The corpse, laden with various tattoos, was estimated to have been dead for about five days and was initially assumed to be that of a migrant worker.
