Fourth crew member of barge which sunk off Phuket rescued

PHUKET: A fourth crewman from the barge that sunk of Koh Racha Yai before dawn on Tuesday (July 7) has today (July 10) been found alive by crew of a foreign registered yacht near Koh Ngai just south of Koh Lanta Yai and close to where Krabi province joins Trang.

46-year-old Thar Hlaing wais to thank Navy officials who helped to rescue him.

According to officials from the Royal Thai Navy, the Myanmar native, named as 46-year-old Thar Hlaing, was extremely exhausted so he has been taken to a resort on Koh Ngai until a Navy boat from Koh Lanta Noi arrives to transport him to hospital.

The Navy has decided not to transport Mr Thar by helicopter as they see it as a very high risk due to his condition.

Three other members of the crew were found alive and safely recovered at Koh Lanta on Wednesday (July 8) and yesterday (July 9).

An exhausted Nathee Klabjit, from Prachup Khiri Khan province was rescued just off Koh Lanta Noi at 6:30pm on Wednesay (July 8) and taken to Lanta Hospital to recover.

Two Myanmar crew members were found holding onto bamboo sticks while floating near rocks at Koh lantaʼs Klongkhong Beach at 5:30am yesterday and were rescued by local villagers. Both were taken to Lanta Hospital. (See story here)
