In the heavy rain of November 2011, sections of the bank, which supports the north-bound lane near the Hino truck dealer, slid, and traffic was temporarily diverted to the slow lane amid fears that part of the road would collapse.

Chief Engineer Sathaporn Sornchana told The Phuket News, “We will dig a channel at the base of the slope to carry rainwater away and then we will surface the slope with sprayed concrete.

The project, which will extend about one kilometre along the road, will take about three months to complete. There will be no effect on traffic.

I want the public to know that we are on top of the problems and are fixing them,” Mr Sathaporn added.
