Capt Kraisorn Boonprasop of the Thalang Police was notified of the accident, near the Tha Ruea Shrine on Thepkrasattri Rd south of the Heroines Monument, at 2:30am.

Police arrived with Kusoldharm rescue workers to find a BMW that had struck a roadside streetlight sideways.

The driver, Pichet Thongtongkaew, 30, suffered a minor head injury.

Of his two passengers, Pichet Nualchuay, 33, suffered a broken left leg and Thanawit Salam, 21, suffered only minor injuries.

“The driver (Mr Pichet) said it was raining while they were heading to Phuket Town,” said Capt Kraisorn.

“When they reached the curve (in front of the Tha Ruea Shrine), he lost control of the vehicle and crashed,” he said.

Police have yet to confirm whether Mr Pichet will face any charges for the accident.
