Weapon waving Phuket minivan driver gets B1,000 fine

PHUKET: A man from Nakorn Sri Thamarat who drives a minivan on Phuket was arrested yesterday (Nov 3) after he was caught on video waving what is believed to be either a long knife or a sword out of his window at the driver of a pick-up truck on Thepkrasattri Rd on Wednesday (Dec 2).

Astoundingly, the man was only fined B1,000 and released without any charge.

Thalang Police Superintendent, Col Chanuchan Cholsuwat confirmed the of Thamrong Pramno, 33, who told police that it was an iron bar he was waving at the other driver and not a knife or sword as previously believed.

The Land Transport Office have been notified of the incident, and if Mr Thamrong is caught again breaking any law whilst in his vehicle his driving licence will be suspended.

The incident happened at around 2pm on Wednesday and the video was posted on Facebook not long after.

The video show Mr Thamrong waving some kind of weapon out of his window at a person driving a pick-up truck whilst driving on Thepkrasattri Rd in Thalang just before Tesco Lotus.

Mr Thamrong told police that he and the pick-up driver got engaged in road rage when they cut each other up. This got him angry so he accelerated and swung the iron bar out of his window as a threat to end the road rage.

Deputy director of Phuket Provincial Land Transport Office, Jaturong Kaewkasri said that his office has a records of all bad drivers that have been reported to authorities on Phuket and they monitor their driving behaviour.

“These drivers will get a warning first, then the second time, if they are found to have broken any law, they will have their licence suspended,” he said.
