Wanted drug dealer shot dead by police in Krabi

PHUKET: A man wanted by police in Krabi was shot dead yesterday (June 9) as he attempted to flee from them though a palm plantation in the province̕s Klong Thom district.

The man, named as 45-year-old Winai Lukmuang was wanted in connection with two charges of possession of Category 1 drugs with intent to sell and also attempted murder.

Yesterday evening, Krabi and Saikhow police received information stating that Winai was camping out in a palm oil plantation in Klong Thom district and went to catch him. However, as police approached Winai began to shot at them. Police shot back and Winai attempted to flee. He was shot in the neck as he ran towards a canal in the plantation.

Close to Winai̕s body police found a 9mm pistol with bullets in the magazine, 2,000 methamphetamine pills (ya bah), 30 grams of crystal meth (ya ice), one M12 granade, a note pad containing drugs transactions to the value of B5 million and a list of customers.

Police stated that Winai was a major drug dealer in Krabi and that he had once before opened fire at them in the provinces Khownom district, for which the attempted murder arrest warrant was issued.

Winai̕s body was taken to hospital.
