BANGKOK : An explosion near Bangkok’s popular Erawan Shrine has left several people dead and scores injured Monday (August 17).

The blast detonated at one of the city's most popular tourist attractions around 7.10pm An unidentified policeman interviewed by Western media on the Internet said at 7.37pm the cause definitely was caused a bomb and video showed images of an electronic circuit recovered about 30 metres from the blast scene.

Photos and videos at the scene showed at least six bodies covered in white sheets with ambulances taking numerous others away with injuries. Reuters reported 30 people were reported injured at 7.40pm

The iron fence surrounding the shrine was bent outward by the force of the blast, with the smoking wreckage of several motorbikes littering the scene.
