Karon Police were notified of the incident at about 8:30pm after a report was relayed from the Chalong Police Station radio centre.
The body of the man was discovered in the sea about halfway along the beach at about 6:30pm, according to the police report.
Officers who arrived at the scene contacted hotel staff and showed them a photograph of the deceased foreigner, who had been taken to Chalong Hospital, in an effort to identify him. However, no staff members were able to confirm his identity.
Police said the man’s name and nationality remain unknown and are currently under investigation.
Investigators documented the scene and coordinated with Chalong Police Station officers to conduct a post-mortem examination in accordance with legal procedures.
Karon Police confirmed that officers are continuing to investigate the area and gather information that may help identify the deceased.
The investigation is being led by Pol Lt Col Narutphon Kaewlae, Investigative Supervisor at Karon Police Station.
