Since 1979, I have affectionately described that section of road as the "Patong Death Hill". Not long after I met my wife of around 5 years, I noticed she had a limp. Yeah she'd spent about 6 months in hospital in traction.
Where did it happen ? The "Patong Death Hill". About 3 weeks after she moved in with me, I bought her a new car & sent her for driving lessons. After a few weeks, she got her driving licence. The next day, I went for a drive with her as a passenger. Unfortunately, "dangerously inexperienced" driver. I then sent her for driving lessons with a really good Taxi Driver who I'd known around 7 years or so. Half a day, every second day for another 4 weeks. OK. She was now ready to finally let loose on the road in her own car. We reside over in the South East of the Island. Now, whenever she says to me, "I have to go over to Patong today", & I will say to her, "Go via the Chalong Roundabout, but, whatever you do, don't go over the "Patong Death Hill".
The road is now good compared to many years ago, however the only problem with it are all the incompetent idiots that shouldn't be on it in the first place.
Drive carefully, & watch out for 70 year old drunk Thai Motorcycle riders with no helmets. Just remember, when you sign the charge sheet & pay the fine, it clearly states "Alleged Offender" & that means you always have the option to take it to court.

Looks to me like the pickup was on the wrong side of the road, they are lay on the correct side of the road, probably overtaking on a bend, wanting to get 10 feet further in front, see it every day!

Having seen the video from the pickup on social media it seems pretty clear the pair on the motorcycle are lucky to be alive. Neither had helmets on and they clearly crossed the center line and went headfirst into the truck who was just driving along quite correctly. Must have been one heck of a shock for the pickup driver.
