A person who witnessed the accident called 191 at 1:30am this morning and reported that a vehicle had crashed into roadside pylon and caught fire on bypass road northbound.

Lt Col Chalaew Taihu from Phuket City Police attended that scene, across the road from Premium Outlet in Koh Kaew, with Kusoldharm rescue workers to find a Bangkok registered Honda smashed into a pylon and totally consumed by a fire.

The two men were rescued from the burning vehicle by passing motorists and taken to Vachira Hospital after receiving first aid treatment at the scene.

The victims, Mr Sulaiman Daoh, 25, suffered minor injuries and was able to communicate with police, while Mr Amran Deeramae, 27, had suffered a severe head injury. It was said that the men were from Naratiwat and Pattani provinces respectively.

Mr Sulaiman told police that Amran was driving the vehicle at high speed when he suddenly lost control.

Lt Col Chalaew explained, “Mr Sulaiman said Amran slammed into the pylon which caused a spark in the vehicle and led to the fire starting. Luckily for them, some passing motorists saw the incident, stopped and helped rescue both men from the burning wreck.

“While officers were collecting evidence from the the scene, they discovered several packs of Alprazolam littering the road,” he said.

“We have yet to question the two about the pills, but at this time it looks like Amran will be facing charges of reckless driving causing injury and damage to public property,” he added.
