Police and rescue workers were called to the scene, in front of a Super Cheap convenience store on Srisoonthorn Rd in Bang Tao, at 2pm.
Two men were pinned inside the crushed pickup truck, forcing rescue workers to use steel cutters to recover them from the wreck.
Both men were taken to Thalang Hospital. Police have yet to confirm the men’s condition.
The front-right wheel on the cement truck had been ripped free by the force of the impact.
The cement truck driver, Nipon Phumiprathet, 31, told police that the pickup truck “lost control and crashed into his truck”.
Police took Mr Nipon’s statement before he was taken to Thalang Hospital for chest pain.
One bystander at the scene told The Phuket News, “It looked like one swerved to avoid the collision because the other was trying to overtake [another vehicle].”
Police have yet to charge either of the drivers over the incident, confirmed Lt Peerasit Noopayan of the Cherng Talay police.
“We will question the two men from the pickup truck at the hospital,” he said.
