Police and rescue workers arrived soon after 2:55am to find the bodies of the two men pinned inside their crumpled Nissan pickup truck, said Capt Somkid Onchan of the Wichit Police.

“We were able to identify one man, the driver, as 24-year-old Surapong Saelee from Chiang Rai, but we are still trying to identify his passenger,” Capt Somkid said.

Police believe the truck was travelling northbound at high speed when Mr Surapong missed the bend and lost control of the vehicle.

“We believe that he was not familiar with the road and was driving too fast, but we will look further into the accident before finalising our conclusions as to the cause the accident,” Capt Somkid said.
