The unidentified 34-year-old Turk sustained gunshots to the head and abdomen in front of the Solo Bar in tambon Borpud of Surat Thani province. Two pistols - a .38 and a 9mm loaded with bullets - a knife, and about 100,000 baht cash, were found near the body, Thai media reported.

Kabin Srisa-ard, the security guard who allegedly shot him, waited for police to surrender.

According to police, the Turkish tourist went to the Solo Bar drunk about 2am today and asked staffers to open the venue to serve him. An employee told him the pub was closed, but the man insisted on entering and blustered before leaving.

Shortly later, he returned and made loud noise in front of the bar. He then got into an argument with Mr Kabin, during which the Turk pulled a gun on him, police said. Mr Kabin fired his own weapon in self-defence, investigators reported.
