The Legros family – Patrick, 52, Yelena, 36, and seven-year-old Ekaterina – chartered the speedboat from Boat Lagoon for a day of sightseeing around the bay.
After stopping for lunch at Phi Phi Don, the trio with their driver set off for the afternoon, planning to arrive back at Boat Lagoon around 6pm.
By 8:30pm the Marine Police had been alerted that the boat had broken down, and set out to find it. They eventually located it at about 10pm, wallowing uncomfortably in a heavy swell a couple of miles off Koh Sirei.
The tourists were eventually landed on terra firma at Rassada Pier, at about 11:30pm.
