Krabi Marine Police were called by one of the fisherman, Thongchai Lungpong, 29, at 3:09am asking for help after his fishing boat had engine failure close to Koh Por Da in Ao Nang.

Mr Lungpong told police that he and two friends, Chatchawan Siri, 35, and Jackrit Kulpimai, 28,were frighten that the boat would sink because the waves were high and the wind strong.

Lt Anurak Parinyasthirakul from the Marine Police went out with five officers to locate the sinking fishing boat. He said, “We found the small fishing boat about three nautical miles off Koh Por Da. We rescued all three fishermen on board the boat and brought them back to shore. They were all safe and suffered no injuries.”

Mr Lungpong told police that he and his friends were on a fishing trip, but when they reached Koh Por Da the wind started to pick up and the waves got higher.

He said that as soon as he dropped anchor, the waves started rocking the boat and water started to fill it. He was scared the boat would sink so called for help.

The fishing boat was also saved from sinking and towed to Koh Por Da.
