Technology: Spicy photo soup with Oasis Ed

There’s more to a good photo than the length of the selfie-stick.

Amongst the photography nerd community of the world there is debate as to whether the profusion of smart phone photos being generated is positive or negative. We now have a glut of images filling up our screen spaces with kittens, burgers and selfies. And sadly most are lacking in any creativity or basic technique. It’s a bit like everyone in the world suddenly being served free soup – it’s bland but it’s free and there’s lots of it!

Let’s do our bit to spice that photo soup up, add some creativity, taste and flavour. Take your time to choose an interesting perspective, tweak the composition, consider the lighting… And voila, you have created some tasty photos the whole family will love.

We owe this to the world, to the future of photographic art and to our children. Or else the next generation may grow up to believe that a blurry selfie shot of a kitten eating a hamburger is the pinnacle of modern photographic art.

Take a step in the right direction by joining the “Smart Phone, Great Photos” workshop in Rawai on the April 3.
