It might be creepy but, Facebook does know a lot about us. Age, nationality, gender, types of interest, location (if you are a tourist, expat or a local), what type of device you are using, email addresses and if you are connected with their apps on your phone they probably even know your phone number. That, for a user’s point of view, is creepy!

But what does that mean for your business? It means a lot of opportunities to reach your potential clients or even to keep developing the relationship with your current customers.

However, there are different ways to target your audience with Facebook and each type of advert has a different objective – whether it be to drive traffic to your website, to promote your page, to create more awareness for your posts and so on.

To be effective, you really need to test and try different approaches with each ad. The best thing with these type of ads is that you can change or even stop them if they’re not giving you results. You set your budgets but be sure to keep an eye on different metrics like; engagement, cost per click, click through ratio and others.

Just a quick note, we don’t recommend using the “boost a post” option that Facebook offers you on every post you put out. It might seem to be the easiest way to promote your post but it limits the target audience you can choose.

The best way to create an ad is through the Power Editor. For instance; if you’re a restaurant and your main clientele are tourists, you can select the option “people who are traveling in this location”+”only people connected with WIFI”. By selecting these options Facebook will show your advert to tourists only.

There are many more options to select a specific audience, you just need to play around with the settings.
