At 2pm yesterday, Phuket City Police Superintendent Col Kaitong Jantongbai led a team of armed police to escort Ong-art Meekaew, 29, Rawai native, for the re-enactment of the murder of Nattapon Nukul. Mr Nattapon was stabbed to death in Soi Thungka just after midnight on July 2 and Ong-art was arrested at 5pm that day.

Police said Ong-art admitted to the murder, which he said he committed with another man, Nattapong or Mai Tongsri, 24, whom is wanted by police.

The Phuket News noted that the atmosphere at the crime scene re-enactment was both orderly and peaceful. Police both fully uniformed and plain clothed were at the scene to provide security for the suspect. Many residents showed up to watch and take pictures.

Mr Natttapon was on his way back home after finishing work when he was stopped by two men about 30 metres from his rented room.

The re-enactment showed Ong-art and the second suspect, Mai, beating up the victim with a piece of metal, and the victim attempting to get away from them on his motorbike.

The men managed to stop the victim, and Mai stabbed the victim in the neck. As the men tried to flee, a 4-inch blade was still in the victim’s right ear, and nearby was a Honda Click motorbike lying in the road and the handle of the knife.

Col Kaitong Jantongbai told The Phuket News that they have sent officers to the remaining suspect’s hometown, Nakorn Sri Thammarat, and reassured that they will find him soon.
