The aparent "false alarm" follows a EOD unit earlier confirming that a strange contraption found in the Paradise Plaza market was an undetonated bomb.
At 3.25pm on Sunday (August 14) an unnamed Patong business operator alerted authorities of a suspect contraption that reportedly resembled a pipe-bomb partially buried in the sand at the beach.
Authorities reported to the scene, near the Banana Walk shopping complex, and quickly evacuated all pedestrians within a 200-metre radius.
As the unit inspected the scene for nearly an hour, no pedestrians were allowed to enter the evacuation zone, its boundaries guarded by armed, uniformed officers.
By 4.20pm, the EOD unit reported that it had failed to find any such device during its hour long inspection, and concluded that the "suspect contraption" was nothing more than a "hole and lump" in the sand.
