The popular cricket fest at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club features 15 foreign teams and one local side.
The foreign teams are from Test-playing nations India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. As always, the tournament will feature some stars of yesteryear.
Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and paceman Shabbir Ahmed swung in to join the likes of ex-Indian Test players Sanjeev Sharma and Junior Robin in the event.
Former Bangladesh internationals Nanu, Nobel and Akram Khan is also be taking part in the tournament. The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups.
After two days of round-robin games, the top two finishers in each group will proceed to the Cup knockout round, while the third- and fourth-placed teams in each group will head for the Plate knockout stage.
Hosts RBSC, the only local squad in the competition, were drawn into Group C for the round-robin opening stage.
The other sides in the group are Hindu Gymkhana, Jiya Cricket Club and Kolkata Cricket Club.
Red Bull head Group A where they will face Lions Cricket Club, Palam Vihar Gymkhana and Chittagong Club.
DK Club, Lions Team, Magra Sports Club and Pirates of Chittagong are in Group B.
FMC Cricket Club, Malviya Club, Hyderabad Chargers and Calcutta Cricket & Football Club are the four sides drawn in Group D.
Chief organiser and RBSC cricket section chairman Jayeshkumar Bhudhara said the standard of play is getting better every year.
The event begun at 8am yesterday with the Cup and Plate finals scheduled for Sunday (Jan 31).
