The accident took place about 10:40 pm on the bend just south of the power distribution station near the Kwang Rd intersection. The Nissan was travelling north when it shot across into the opposite lane.

Riding south on his motorbike was Weerachat Tamchoo, with his three-month-pregnant wife Sunisa Nikulpon on the back. He survived the impact, though badly injured, but Ms Sunisa, who lost both legs and was disemboweled by the impact, was not expected to live.

Boonlert Tabklai, 55, the driver of the minibus, which was carrying staff of the Phuket Hilton Arcadia Resort & Spa, was injured, along with four passengers. They were named as Peerayuth Nooyam, 28, Pantat Wattanayakorn, 23, Pornpipop Boonsongserm, 37, and Yoonthong Sri’amporn, 31.

The driver of the Nissan sedan, later named as Supakij Choolak, was also injured. Staff of the Phuket Ruamjai Foundation said that when they went to remove him from the wreckage of his car, he appeared to be very drunk and shouted abuse at them.

Chalong Police are to follow up.
