Sermsakul Klaikaew, Governor of the nationwide Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), inspected the Karon substation on Saturday (Mar 26).
“Tourism and business growth in this area has been very quick,” he said. “This new substation will help prevent power outages and allow more growth by providing stable power supply.”
Construction began in November 2013 with a budget of about B280 million.
“Construction is 95.04% complete and the facility is expected to be online and operational in June this year,” Mr Sermsakul said.
“The substation will be able to provide up to 80MW of power to areas including Rawai, Saiyuan, Nai Harn, Kata and Karon,” he added.
According to their own records, the Phuket PEA has a total of 196,867 users in the province.
By breakdown according to PEA “service areas”, there are 95,269 users in Phuket Town; 52,438 users in Thalang; 17, 202 users in Patong; 27,502 users in Chalong; and 4,456 users on Koh Yao, to which the Phuket PEA also provides mains power supply.
