Upon arriving at the scene, about 300 metres from the Bang Jak Petro Station, they found the double decker bus, belonging to the Poonsiri Travel Company, had come to rest in the outside lane of the inbound road leading to Muang Krabi. Many tourists were trying to escape from the bus; some had sustained injuries to the head and face, and were immediately taken to Krabi Hospital.

Following investigations, police found that the bus, driven by Suwit Suttimon, 35, had picked up fifteen tourists from Phuket International Airport and was en-route to Ao Nang in Krabi.

Upon approaching the scene of the accident, Mr Suwit had to swerve to avoid a motorcycle which was riding against the flow of traffic, causing the bus to hit concrete barriers used to divide the road.

It was reported that three Thais and three Danish were injured, the most serious being a 70 year-old Danish man, Mr Jens Lindrupbie, who has sustained a deep cut to his forehead.

Unfortunately, following the bus accident, a pickup truck slid on a patch of petrol which had leaked from the bus ,and hit an unnamed Burmese worker and broke his leg.
