Six fishermen rescued from sinking boat off Phuket

PHUKET: Two Thai and four Myanmar nationals were rescued by marine rescue teams yesterday (Dec 7) when their fishing vessel started to sink off the coast of Phuket.

Lt Col Panya Chaichana from the Marine Police received an emergency call at 3pm from Thanee Sookkho the captain of the Na Pornprasit fishing boat who said that water was leaking into the engine room of the boat and that it had started to sink three nautical mile off Kata Beach.

He reported that there were six people on board.

Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command, Karon Beach Tourist Rescuers and Marine Police were immediately dispatched on longtail boats, dinghies and speedboats to assist the fishing crew.

In under fifteen minutes the six uninjured fisherman had been rescued and taken to another boat while their boat continued to sink.

The boat owner contacted other nearby fishing boats who attended the scene and helped stop the Na Pornprasit from sinking completely before taking it to Patong beach.
