Details were revealed following a meeting on Wednesday (January 28) between the administration consultant for the Singapore Consulate in Thailand, Gabrille Liew, his team, and Phuket Vice Governor, Dr Panlop Singhasenee.
After the meeting, V/Gov Panlop said that the meeting was held because Singapore has a plan to open consular offices in all major cities in Thailand that deal with Singaporean workers and tourists including Phuket, Chiang Mai, Songkhla, and Chonburi.
The team from the Singapore Consulate in Thailand have scheduled to visit each of these provinces and will use the information gathered from each visit to determine the required plans and timescales for opening a consular office in each area.
V/Gov Panlop said, “Our records show that there are 94 Singaporeans registered in Phuket that have work permits for work such as hotel CEOs and golf course staff.
“They also show that Phuket receives about 100,000 Singaporean tourists per year, which is quite small when compared to Chiang Mai and other countries.”
He also also assured that if any tourist needed help during their stay in Phuket they can report directly to the Provicial Hall and they will provide assistance.
