Set-up leads to drug dealers arrest in Phuket

PHUKET: A man from Kanjanaburi has been arrested in Phuket in possession of 4,000 Methamphetamine pills (ya bah) and 94.59 grams of Crystal Meth (ya ice). The suspect admitted he received B50,000 to deliver the drugs and it was his first delivery to Phuket.

Yesterday (March 3) at 10:30am, Phuket Provincial Police Commander, Maj Gen Pachara Boonyasit and Phuket Narcotic police announced the arrest of Odd or Winai Putha, 38, a Kanjanaburi native.

Maj Gen Pachara revealed that on February 21 police arrested Somporn Krodlangpama with 100 ya bah pills and had him contact his supplier (Winai), an ex-inmate of Kanjanaburi prison in Tongpaphume, to buy more drugs.

Winai set up a delivery date for two packages of ya bah and 100 grams of ya ice with Somporn.

On the afternoon of February 27, Winai alerted his client that he had passed through the Thachatchai check point and was heading towards the agreed drop off location, the Tesco Lotus on Chalermprakiet Rd.

At 4pm, police spotted a Kanjanaburi registered the Toyota Toyota Vigo and knew they had their suspect.

Police approached Winai̕s vehicle and identified themselves. They conducted a search of Winai̕s vehicle and found the drugs hidden within the truck and also inside the suspect̕s underwear.

Winai was taken to Phuket City police station where he admitted to police that he an ex-inmate of Kanjanaburi prison and that he had been released on February 20 after serving time for a firearms offence.

Wanai said that he had been passed Somporn's phone number from a fellow inmate he named a Klar.

Winai now faces being charged with possession of Category 1 drugs with intent to sell without permission.
