Sam Kong underpass road-surfacing finally begins

PHUKET: After more than a month of preparation work laying the foundations for the surface roads on the west side of the Sam Kong Underpass, workers today (July 22) began paving the road surface.

Work to resurface the roads at the beleaguered construction site began on June 19, with statement of intent to complete the road surfacing within 20 days. (See story here.)

However, intermittent heavy downpours during the past month forced the workers to breach that deadline, Highways Department Project Engineer Chalermpol Wongkiettikun told The Phuket News today.

“At this stage, completing the roads above and around the Sam Kong Underpass will be finished around mid-August – if no more rain slows us down,” he said.

“Today workers started laying asphalt on the road in front of Aphrodite. If no rain affects work there, this section should be finished by next week. The resurfacing of the roads is progressing very slowly at that section due to the number of buses coming to Aphrodite.” he added.

“After we complete this section, we will resurface the road in front of Wat Sam Kong and then front of Thanachart Bank,” Mr Chalermpol said.

KCPhuket:..Not soon, I guess. First they have to finish the ceiling - and wall works, than all the 'real' lights.( still now emergency lights). After that the resurfacing?

I am sure many readers, if they live on Phuket, have noticed the very few numbers of workers there, day in day out.
The underpass is open since Songkran,( unfinished) as ordered by a visiting Minister.
Since then no one cares about finishing everything time wise.
