Police have ruled out foul play; it is believed he may have died from ill health.
Cherng Talay police received a phone call at midday from the Amora, to say that a guest had been found unconscious. Staff of the Emergency Medical Service of Thalang Hospital rushed to the hotel where they attempted to revive the Russian before taking him to the hospital.
He died later in the hospital. A preliminary medical examination suggested that he died because of weight-related illness; he weighed about 150 kg.
The Russian was staying in the hotel alone. His name is being withheld until his family have been contacted.
