Going into the game, the Ronins stood at 15th place in the table with 39 points, Phichit were one place below at 16th with 38 points.
Both sides were hopeful of a victory and three important points, but that wasn’t to be the case for either team.
Phichit FC were the better of the two teams in the first-half creating plenty of scoring opportunities but never finding the back of the net.
Due to Phichit’s formation, the Ronins were forced to make counter attacks whenever possible, but Phichits defence, especially ex-Phuket legend Nenebi Tra Sylvestre, who done a great job keeping Phuket’s top scorer Berlin Ndebi out of the game.
However, it was a different story in the second-half, which saw Phuket take control. But it was in minute 83 that the game changed. Ndebi managed to lose his marker and fired in a close range shot which flew past Phichit’s keeper and straight into the back of the net.
But the Ronin’s fans celebrations were short lived, and their hopes of three points faded. A lack of concentration by Phuket’s defence saw Athit Buthjinda strike the ball into Phuket’s goal and level the score at 1-1 just two minutes later.
Both teams kept trying to break the deadlock, but even with four minutes of extra-time added neither were able to do so.
The score remained at 1-1 at the final whistle.
Both Phuket and Phichit remain in the same position in the league table, but with only four games now remaining in the season, they will both be trying even harder to take three points home from all their games in a bid to avoid the drop to Division Two.
Phuket now hit the road to take on 10th placed Ang Thong FC at the Ang Thong Stadium on Sunday (Nov 29). They then return home to Surakul on Saturday Nov 5 when they will take on Nakhonpathom United who currently sit at 8th in the league and will certainly be looking for a win as they are still in contention for promotion to the Thai Premier League.
