CAAT director Chula Sukmanop said Thai authorities will invite the ICAO to carry out an audit in December in the hope it will remove the red flag, adding: “However, it is unlikely they will withdraw it this year.”
The ICAO red-flagged Thailand in June last year over air safety standards.
Meanwhile, European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) officials are due to check the country’s aviation safety again in May, six months after the previous inspection, according to Mr Chula.
The EASA will examine progress in how Thai authorities have tackled the country’s aviation safety problems, he said.
Mr Chula said he is confident the country will pass the test as the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has now been split into the CAAT and Department of Airports.
Various laws have also been devised and the inspection of Thai-flagged carriers has begun, he said.
He added CAAT will propose a plan on human resources development and training in the industry to the cabinet for approval.
