PHUKET: Economic Crime Suppression police from Bangkok seized thousands of fake brand-name goods worth about a million baht in a raid on a shop near Patong Beach on Thursday (Oct 16).

Economic Crime Suppression Police officers go through fake brand-name goods seized in a raid on a shop in Patong

Acting on a court-issued warrant, Kathu Police Col Kitthi Sapowthong and officers stormed the accessories shop on Prabaramee Rd at 3.30pm and confiscated more than 2,764 counterfeit and pirated goods.

The haul of knock-offs included: 1,264 branded polo shirts; purses; watches; cell phone cases; suitcases; wallets and 1,500 other counterfeit goods.

Shop owner, Thitika Katpituktam, 23, was taken to Kathu Police station for further questioning.

The raid was part of the a nationwide crackdown on 'red zones' like the Patong Beach area, where the sale of counterfeit goods is prevalent, said Col Kitthi, warning that police would continue the crackdown with more raids.
