Police named the man as Krityot Sunkiatkul, a 20-year-old freshman at a university in Phuket. The university name was not disclosed.

Visut Romin, deputy chief officer of Kathu District, told The Phuket News that police at Tha Chat Chai checkpoint were given a tipoff that Krityot would be driving through. After police stopped him and searched his vehicle, they found 7 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ya ice) and two guns.

Krityot took police to his house in Kathu, where a search revealed nothing.

However the student admitted he had another house at Iravadee Villa in Wichit, so police went there to search also. Here police found 2,200 meth pills, also know as ya ba.

Krityot was taken to Tha Chat Chai police station for processing.
